Maui Activities

Man and woman biking up a curvy roadBiking on Maui can be a fun and eco-friendly way to see the island and its beautiful sights. Bikers looking for a unique experience should plan for a sunrise biking excursion that takes the riders up to the Haleakala’s summit.

There are a few bike rental and bike tour companies to choose from:

Haleakala Bike Company

The Sunrise Special is a great option for those wanting to see the sunrise at the Haleakala crater but also enjoy free time in the morning and into the afternoon exploring Haleakala independently. Check-in is around 3 a.m. and a guided van tour will take you to the summit for sunrise. You’ll then head back to the park entrance at 6,500 ft. where you’ll be outfitted for your ride and given a map of a 23-mile route with points of interest. You must return your bike no later than 4 p.m. The company also offers regular bike rentals and summit trips for visitors that do not wish to be up before the sun.

Mountain Riders

A Maui sunrise bike tour through Mountain Riders is one of their most popular tours. The company will pick you up at your resort between 2 and 3 a.m., drive up to the summit of Haleakala for the sunrise, and then bring you back down to the entrance before beginning the guided tour of the biking trails in the area.

Pedego Electric Bikes

Pedego does not offer a sunrise biking tour, but their electric bikes are becoming popular on the island and they’re located in Lahaina! You can enjoy biking at your own pace but if a hill or the wind proves too much, you can turn on the electric mode without losing your pace. You can rent from three styles of bikes, a comfort cruiser, tandem, or trail tracker and rent by the hour or for an entire day.
