The History of Our Napili Bay Hotel

Hale Napili is an exquisite, small resort located on Napili Bay; easily one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Relax in our Napili Bay condos! Maui has a variety of activities including spending time on the beach! When its 10 original condominium units were built in 1960, Hale Napili was one of only three Napili Bay hotels. In 1971, an additional 8 units were added, bringing the total number of rooms to the current 18. 4 condos are one-bedroom and 14 are studio apartments. Located at the mid-point of Napili Bay, and now surrounded by several other low-rise condominiums and hotels, Hale Napili is a beachfront property and all units have direct access to the beach.

The entire resort underwent significant renovations to the infrastructure and exterior in the fall of 2011. Many interior upgrades to individual accommodations were also made, including granite countertops, designer fixtures, ceramic stovetops, hand-crafted tiled showers, and flat-screen televisions. Each unit at Hale Napili is uniquely furnished and decorated according to the owner’s preferences. The vision of all the owners and employees of Hale Napili is to offer a prominent level of comfort and luxury service and to make each guest’s experience memorable and filled with the aloha spirit.

Lawrence and Louise Kamaka

Napili is a priceless gem that has become a home-away-from-home for many guests. Along with the outstanding location, Hale Napili employees carry on a tradition of an all-embracing aloha spirit that began with Louise and Lawrence Kamaka in 1960. Until their retirement in 1994, Auntie Louise, as the general manager, and Uncle Larry, as the landscaper, made every guest feel special and welcomed as members of their extended family.

The family tradition of aloha spirit continued with their daughter Patti Sharp, who served as general manager from 1994 until her retirement in 2011. Hale Napili is now on the third generation of local family management as Patti has been succeeded by her cousin, Jamie Lum Lung-Kaeo. We still welcome guests with the same aloha spirit that began with Louise and Lawrence more than 50 years ago.
